January 2023
Happy New Year everyone!! Your Finance Council held its last meeting of 2022 in mid-November. The next meeting will be Monday, January 23rd at Cardome. A number of items were discussed at the last meeting. One of those was the implementation of the new By-laws and the revised procedures for Parish financial management. These are now in place.
The financial status of Cardome, the Parish, and the Church School was reviewed—including the results of the School Raffle and the proceeds from the Festival.
A new “wrinkle” for Cardome’s paid events is the new Kentucky requirement to charge sales tax. The staff is handling that requirement as we speak. Funding for the Parish Life Center was reviewed and discussed. The Parish Financial Manager was directed to establish a separate account for restricted donations to the Capital Campaign so that all donors and parishioners can know our status. That account stands at almost $224,000!
Speaking of our status, the accounting for the mid-point of the 2022-2023 church fiscal year is complete. Total Offertory is $327,219 against a Budget goal of $341,000—a difference of $14,000. We’re a bit short of goal at “halftime” in our fiscal year, but we’re trending in a positive direction—December offertory was $67,000, this was $11,000 above Budget!
But what about expenses?! December’s expenses were below budget, and year to date we are only 9% above budget. Increased donations and actions to cut costs where possible (seen your heating and electric bill lately?) should bear fruit in the next quarter. Needless to say, the Finance Council is encouraged and hopes that as we each look at our 2023 Parish contribution plans, we are mindful of the need to fully fund the many ministries of the church.
The Finance Council is also aware and appreciative of the many hours of volunteer work performed for the Parish. These donations of time and talent translate into thousands of dollars saved that can be directed towards mission, and not spent on grass cutting, maintenance, etc. Again, similar to your 2023 planning for financial support, please consider lending the Parish some of your time and talents this year—it’s good for you!
Please feel free to contact members of the Finance Council if you have questions. We are on the church website under the Parishioner dropdown.
Thanks to our Council Members for your service in 2022 and to all of you who so generously contribute to our mission.
