Who uses the Time, Talent and Treasure that each of us gives back as part of our personal stewardship pledge? Well the ultimate answer is as always, God receives and applies them through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. He is the one who taught us how to be good stewards, how to love our neighbor, how to live the New Testament, not the Old. He is the one who will eventually evaluate the deposits we have made into our “Spiritual Wallet” to see if we have a positive balance and gain access to His kingdom, in heaven. He changed the paradigm that we are charged to live by and He will evaluate how we respond. He expects us to give back. He will use what we give!
But, today in Georgetown, Kentucky at Sts. Francis and John, who are the “hands on” shepherds for the faithful stewards of their Catholic faith? Who is responsible to use our gifts of thanksgiving? Our priests, Father Linh and Father Arock are shepherds, as are your elected representatives, the Parish Council. They work together to direct and co-ordinate the activities of the Parish. All committees, appointed or volunteer, are responsible to our priests and to Parish Council. The committees are not responsible to the Stewardship Committee. We don’t supervise any committees. We don’t shepherd a committee’s charge for the parish. Our job is to sow the message of Stewardship, the message “to give back because you have received”. We always need help for that mission, if you can, sign up!
With your help we have completed the parish wide exercise of “Sign-Up”. Forty-three committees and ministries have been populated with your volunteer sign-ups and the new members engaged. The number of volunteers has increased by about 25%. Your names have been passed on to the committee chairs. They should have been in contact with you by now. If you signed up and have not been contacted by a committee chair you can find the committee chair’s e-mail on the web site under the Stewardship tab. Please contact them. We want everyone to engage. That is the basis of the parish ministries, to fulfill the spiritual mission of the parish, and in doing so, to give you the opportunity to give back to God, because you have received. Also coming to the web site soon are the committee rosters submitted by the chairs. We want to recognize you and to thank everyone who is working to make our parish, our diocese and our community a better place. Check that you are correctly listed where you are working. If you want to join a committee that you are not currently active in, or if you are not listed where you are working, contact the chair and get involved.
Now the Stewardship Committee is moving on to this fall’s Sign-up. We will be working to further increase the number of people that engage. We have almost 300 parishioners currently involved, many on multiple committees, but we have 2230 parishioners registered in 792 different households in the parish. We need to engage more of you in our mission. We will be working to increase the opportunities for the Hispanic community and to enlarge the rosters for the working committees. Please read and consider the education pieces on each of the committees/ministries that will be appearing in the bulletin. Find something that appeals to you and when Sign-up comes around again this fall, sign up to “give back because you have received”.
